Information about the
AeroFlight Tech Data
Airworthiness Directive
Compliance Software

AeroFlight Tech Data's original Airworthiness Directive Compliance software was written strictly to use the data base from a CD-ROM.  Since then, technology has made quite large advances that may be used to help provide faster information by using the Internet.
The next generation of the Airworthiness Directive Compliance software provides the information via the Internet using web browsers.  However, there are several consequences of using this approach:
  • The data must always be stored on the Web Server that provides the information.  If the Internet connection fails, the data is not available.
  • You cannot store the data on your own computer or use the data from CD-ROMs that you already have on hand.
  • Every time a page is processed, all the data must be transmitted across the internet from the Web Server to your computer.  The speed of the process is highly dependent on many factors that are likely to be beyond either your or our control.
  • The browser does not properly handle page sized sets of data for printing reports.   The browser sees the entire report as one page instead of a set of pages making up the report.  So the reports are not broken into logical pages.
In response to the problems of this approach, AeroFlight Tech Data now offers the third generation of Airworthiness Directive Compliance software.

This version runs on your computer.  At your option, the software may use the data from the monthly CD-ROM or it may access the data from the AeroFlight Tech Data Compliance Server for information released between CD-ROMs.  It is very easy to switch back and forth between reading the data from CD-ROM and retrieving it from our Server.

For certain rare cases where you may need to access the information from two or more different computers, you may choose to store the data on the AeroFlight Tech Data Airworthiness Compliance Server.  The most likely situation is if you are going into the field and will be using a different computer to access the data.

In fact, you may store the data on your own computer and then easily move it onto the AeroFlight Tech Data Server when you are ready to leave -- just open the database and then save it.  While you are away, you just need to install the software on the remote computer and then access the data from the AeroFlight Server.  When you return to the office, all that is required to move the latest version back to your computer is to open the data from the AeroFlight Server and then save it to your computer.

Unlike the second generation of the software, the data is usually passed from the AeroFlight Tech Data Server to your computer once to load the data and back again only if you modifies the data and then save it.

In most cases, the data should be stored on your own computer in order to avoid delays as the data is transmitted across the Internet and in case the user needs to access the data during times of Internet outages.

Note:  The software has not been tested on Windows ME.  If you try to install it on Windows ME, please e-mail eric@aftd.com about any problems you have and whether or not it installed and works okay.
